St. Joseph, MO – John Zetmeir – newspressnow. There was plenty black and gold in the Morgan Multipurpose Building at Central on Thursday morning. Seniors Zach Hanlan, Taylor Bristol and Kenzie Miller all signed their national letters of intent to continue their athletic and academic careers at Missouri Western.
“I think it directly reflects on our school but also that Missouri Western likes the local talent and likes to keep it to where the members of the community can come out and support,” Hanlan said. Hanlan will continue baseball as he joins the team at Western following his senior year at Central. During the past two seasons, the Central outfielder helped lead the Indians to both conference and district titles. “It’s going to be a great journey,” Hanlan said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun. I can’t wait to start.”
Bristol also will join a successful program at Western as she joins the Griffons on the softball diamond. It was an emotional day for Bristol, who gets to continue her softball career for one of the most winningest programs in the MIAA. “It’s a dream come true for me,” Bristol said. “I love softball and getting to play for four more years is something I’ve dreamed about my entire life.”
Miller will become the latest local runner to join the growing cross country and track and field teams at Western. After missing two trips to state because of injury, Miller finished her high school cross country career by finishing 61st out of 169 runners at the Class 4 state meet while being coached by her dad, Bob Miller. “I just feel very grateful that I get to continue my running career into college,” Miller said. “It’s just such a great sport. It’s a great way to build relationships and I’m really excited for what the future holds.”
