Indians News · MSHSAA Girls Districts

The inaugural season for the Lady Indians Wrestling team has been tremendous. Both freshman Ryan Slibowski and junior TJ Rich did an excellent job. We as a coaching staff are extremely proud of their hard work and effort. Both ladies earned ALL-CITY honors before heading into Friday and Saturday’s first ever MSHSAA Girls District Championships held at Smithville HS.

In Friday’s first three rounds, Ryan Slibowski at 131lbs defeated her first opponent by Fall in the 1st period, while TJ Rich advanced with a Bye. During the Quarterfinals both girls faced very difficult  opponents but fought hard in their losses.  During the 2nd round wrestle backs both girls advanced, Ryan easily pinned her opponent in the first period while TJ received a Bye.

On Day 2, during the 3rd round wrestle backs TJ Rich’s season ended with a tough loss to a very physical Brookfield opponent. While Ryan Slibowski avenged a loss to a great Liberty North wrestler. She wrestled amazingly and defeated her nemesis by fall in the third period. Ryan kept that the momentum going by defeating her Lathrop opponent by fall advancing to the 3rd place match. Unfortunately Ryan’s season came to an end with a close loss, placing 4th, to an excellent Marceline wrestler.

During the first season the MSHSAA Girls’ Districts Tournament only advances the top 3 wrestlers out of 20+ teams to the State Championships in Columbia next week, while the Boys’ Districts advanced top 4.

We are proud of these Lady Indian Wrestlers and we are excited about the future!
