St. Joseph, MO – The Central Indians Athletic Department is excited to get your vote for the 2018-19 “Athlete of the Month”. Each month the Central Athletic Departments coaches will select their top athlete to be recognized for their outstanding achievements on the field and in the classroom. Fans will be asked to vote for the individual athlete they feel is deserving of the athlete of the month honor. We are now recognizing our winter sports student-athletes for their outstanding contributions and representation to Central Athletics for the month of January.
BOYS BASKETBALL – Josh Clarendon: Josh is the Boys Basketball nominee for athlete of the month. During the month of January, Josh averaged 8.1 ppg, 7.3 rpg and 2.2 apg. During this stretch we went 5-3 including 3 in a row to end the month. Josh is our team captain and leads by example night in and night out.
GRILS BASKETBALL – Sydney Sample: Over the course of January Sydney averaged 7pts, 4 rebs, and 3 steals per game. She won news press athlete of the week. Sydney has started to really grow into her own and become more comfortable playing her role.
GIRLS SWIMMING – Isabella Flaska: Isabella came into the swim season as a Freshman and only having rec league experience. She has a very, very hard work ethic and is extremely coachable. Isabella is always asking for ways to help her swims. She takes the information given and adjusts her stroke/technique to improve. Isabella has made State consideration times in the 50 free and 100 free and also participated in all 3 varsity relays as the anchor swimmer. Isabella’s strong work ethic, positive attitude, and the intensity of her focus in the sport of swimming, makes her a candidate for Athlete of the Month.
WRESTLING – Ryan Slibowski: Ryan became the first District Girls medalist in school history! Placing 4th. Ryan had an outstanding season and was recently named the News Press Athlete of the week.
