Monique Lucas – Class of ’85
While at Central, Ms. Lucas participated in Basketball, Volleyball and Track. She earned All-State honors in basketball her senior year while averaging 21 points and 8 rebounds. Monique had a career high of 37 points o her way to becoming the all time leading scorer in CHS Lady Indians basketball history with 1420 career points, a record that still stands. Monique continued her basketball success with a scholarship to play at the University of Missouri. As a Tiger, Monique averaged nearly 10 points per game in her three-year career. She was the third leading scorer on the team her sophomore year (8.7 ppg), and raised her average to 12.1 ppg during her junior season with a college career high 26 points against Colorado. A knee injury forced Monique to miss a majority of her senior year. Monique completed her degree at MIZZOU and went on to earn a MBA in Business. Ms. Luca is employed with Hallmark Cards in Kansas City and is a realtor with Reece and Nichols. Monique has a son, Marcus, which just completed a very successful football career at the University of Missouri and is currently preparing for the NFL draft.
Adam Selkirk – Class of ’95
While at Central, Mr. Selkirk participated in tennis and basketball. He earned membership into the National Honor Society and received Central High School’s 1995 Scholar-Athlete award. Adam’s stellar tennis career at Central High School consists of four district singles championships and he was a three-time Missouri State Singles Champion. He also led the 1993 Central tennis program to the Missouri State Team Championship. Adam was the #1 ranked player in the Missouri Valley five state region and he was ranked in the top 25 USTA national poll for junior singles players from 1991-1994. Mr. Selkirk took his talents to the University of Minnesota were he was an integral part of the Gophers two-time NCAA Regional team championships and their two NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances. Adam earned his doctorate degree in clinical psychology. He is currently in practice as a psychologist and a university profess in Chicago. Adam resides in Chicago with his wife, Christina, his 3 year-old son, Sawyer, and they are expecting a baby in April.
1993 Men’s Tennis Team
Central Tennis has a rich tradition of excellence in the State of Missouri. In the past 25 yeas only two schools have advanced to the team state tournament from our Class 2 Sectional, Rockhurst and Central. This group of young men achieved state recognition with a 3rd place finish in 1991, 2nd place in 1992 and reached the pinnacle in 1993 with the Missouri State Team Championship. The ’93 Indians went 17-0 winning the Central Invitational, Conference, District, and the elite Tournament of Champions on their way to winning the State Championship. Coach Randy Dedrickson’s 1993 tennis team dominated the state tournament with District semi-finalist, Al Boulware, the 2nd place Missouri State Doubles team, Bubba Field and Mike Hargens, the Stat Doubles Champions, Steve Defenbaugh and Brad Harris and the State Singles Champion, Adam Selkirk. The four underclassmen returned for another state championship run finishing third in 1994. Two players went on to play college tennis at the Division I and Division II level.
